  Yachting along this coast

Bodrum is the ideal starting point for sailing the Aegean coast of Turkey. The Gökova Gulf is acknowledged to be one of the best cruising areas in Europe. With abundant sunshine, crystal clear waters, continuous blue skies, good anchorages and friendly people, this coast offers many diversities. There are many unspoiled areas rich in natural beauty and in costal settlements and villages it is still possible to observe local people going about their lives in traditional Turkish village fashion.

Archaeological ruins and historic sites abound in Turkey's southern coastal regions. Many ruins and sites such as Cleopatra's lsland, Knidos, Caunos, Patara
and Kekova can be seen directly from the sea.
Others such as Ephesus, Dydima, Miletos can easily be reached from anchorage points.

The climate of this region also contributes to the cruising excellence of this area with a season that can begin in April and end in October. June, July and August are of course the hottest months. May and September cooler and quieter and April and October still offering 8 to 9 hours of sunshine a day, with the opportunity for walking and exploring as well as cruising.

  What is the Bodrum-Cup?

The Bodrum Cup for wooden boats is the only yacht regatta in Europe (maybe even in the world) run with passengers on board, who, if-they wish, can double as crew. Thus chartering is combined with racing and anyone in the world, even a total landlubber, can take part in the regatta. So, the Bodrum Cup is a regatta for beginners as well as old salts.

In the sense stated above the Bodrum Cup regatta is not merely a race, but an international yacht festival.
It is run along the favorite routes of the ''Blue Voyage'', the name given to cruises in the turquoise seas of the southern coasts of Turkey, studded with hundreds of beautiful coves, rich in natural beauty and traces of more than 3,000 years of history. The racers, crews and passengers alike visit major stops along this route during the Bodrum Cup regatta. Brilliant shot of these wonderful
boats full under sail to be seen in the Bodrum Video. Order now.

The objective of the Bodrum Cup is to encourage and expand the use of sails among Turkey's majestic fleet
of traditional wooden charter yachts known as "gulets". The forebears of gulets have cruised these waters
for centuries under canvas. This also encourages the construction of better boats benefiting from modern
technology and better suited for sailing.

The Bodrum Cup is reserved exclusively for wooden yachts. Modern wood,-epoxy-laminated boats are welcome. GRP or steel hulled vessels can also join, but only as non-competing participants. We want the tradition of yesterday's yachts to survive while adapting the advancements of contemporary technology.
